What is the best major to pick for Buisness?

My goal is to become a manager for a Bmw dealership and someday own my own dealership. what is the best major to follow in college. currently I am a Business Management Major and Ive been told by many people that a major in finance with a minor in Marketing is the best option in the business world. should i change my major or just start a minor with management as my major?

Congrats on your decision to go into business.

you're asking great questions.

I would disagree with the choice of majors, personally.

Finance is good, but the marketing one can be weak.

Marketing is pretty easy to pick up, actually.

If you're thinking of opening a car dealership, you're going to be an entrepreneur. So, take accounting classes. Finance is geared more towards investment professionals. Accounting is for managing the books of a business.

You should really look at the end goal, and that is to get an MBA from a Division 1 school, like Tuck, U of Illinois, and others. For that, you'll need excellent grades in undergrad.

For your info, opening a BMW dealership is not just about knowledge. You have to have a lot of money that you can put up. Even if you're a manager at a BMW, and know how the car business operates, you still may not have the capital (money) to buy a dealership. A dealership easily requires a million dollars to open (I'm not kidding).

You should go to BMW.com, and figure out the process for asking to open a dealership. They will give you the financial requirements.

I hope this doesn't put you off. Business is a great major. But like all majors, there is lots of competition.

I hope you become very wealthy. :-)

accounting
do what you like better and you will do fine. its not that one is better you will just know more about various aspects. in a management major you have to take classes for all types of major including some finance and some marketing maybe one or two depending on your college or university. so keep your major and after taking the specific classes you like the other major better than go ahead and change. you will do better and accomplish your goals faster in whatever you like the best (because hopefully you will be better at whatever you like)
Get a masters of Business Administration...you get lots of everything.
