Ethical question regarding business/marketing?

I feel like in today's society there is a lack of ethical consideration in much of the business world. Things such as preditory lending by banks/creditors, marketing candy %26amp; toys to very young children, and telemarketing/begging for money where 80+% of the donation goes to the telemarketing company.

It seems like in today's society, making a buck at the expense of your neighbor is valued almost the same as making a buck providing a needed service to your neighbor. Is there a way to change this and do people even agree that it is something that needs to change?
Ethical question regarding business/marketing?
What you're describing is the main problem with a capitalist system. Capitalism has its advantages, but it also has these disadvantages (which are often denied by those who are making it work for them). Realistically, for capitalism to be both sustainable and humane, society has to have an effective way to impose a sense of morality on itself, to restrain greed and exploitation.

Effective ways might include regulation of business practices by an impartial government (which we do not have), and cultural prohibitions against moneylending and greed (in the past these could have been provided by religion, but today there is too much diversity for it to work).

I believe that through history we see cycles of freer capitalism %26lt;--%26gt; regulated capitalism, and currently we're at a particularly high %26quot;freer%26quot; end of the pendulum swing. I tend to hope it'll correct itself. I try not to let it make me pessimistic but I agree with you, the drive of greed in our business world is noticeable and shameless, and concerning.
