Do you think the world will actually end in 2012?

I actually think, it will change as we know it, but not end.

I've heard so many prophecies about the mayan calendar ending then.

Also a physic predicted a revolt against the government (I could have predicted this with my eyes shut).

But i just wish all the scientists would stop dismissing this black hole business and actually investigate it, the rumors don't come from nowhere.

What do you think?
Do you think the world will actually end in 2012?
I agree, it is TOTALLY true. 100%!

I mean, seriously, how can anyone ignore the fact that 1 ancient civilization (1 out of 1000's), with extremely limited technology, built a calendar that rolled over hundreds of years after they died out? I mean, some primitive schlub with limited cosmological equipment makes a calendar that resets every so often instead of going on forever like the west used and people somehow don't take that as proof positive that some great shake-up was prophesied and is destined to happen?

And what is up with those scientists anyway!

They have all that equipment in space and use it daily, around the world, tens of thousands of them, to study space and the sky, and our solar system and despite never detecting anything of the black hole sort with all their powerful, proven equipment, they still won't drop everything they are doing, including ACTUAL research, to chase down a rumor propagated by people who want to sell books, have no such sensitive astronomy equipment, and are taking their facts from the clay tablets of people who believed that the Sun was a snake god and also had no astronomy equipment.

What is wrong with the scientists!? Are they TRYING to get us all killed!?

Grow up, join reality, and stop believing every fear-mongering mumbo jumbo that comes along. The real world is a very fascinating place when you give it a chance.

EDIT: %26quot;i mean theirs a reason for these people to come up with the idea ... i dont know what im saying but i think im making sense here%26quot; - kristi

You thought wrong. You are making no sense. You are clearly young and inexperienced in the world and love having something to be scared of. Riots in one pissant little Middle Eastern country will not end the world, plus they've been going on like that for hundreds of years. This may be your young-life's first brush with it, but save the fact this one is over a democratic election...this is nothing new or special or scary. There is NO reason for people to come up with the idea. The %26quot;reason%26quot; is an ancient calendar that starts over every now and again instead of going on in one direction as modern calendars do. That's not a reason. That's the height of stupidity. Maximum irrationality.
Do you think the world will actually end in 2012?
I do not believe the world will end in 2012. This will not be the first time the end of the world has been predicted. Plainly, every other prediction has proven false.

I am interested in knowing what is meant by saying the world will %26quot;change as we know it%26quot; in 2012. Does that not happen every year?

However, whether you die in 2012 or not, I suggest you pursue your dreams. Work hard, play hard, love your family and friends and retain your sense of integrity - if you do that, you'll be able to say you lived a good life when your time on earth is done.
Some believe that the Mayan calender stopped on this date because it was the end of a cycle that merely began again at the beginning of their calendar. Why repeat what you already have?

I believe that Human Beings, particularly Fundamentalist Christians, will push political and economic situations towards a crisis point in order to bring about, what they believe to be, the second coming.

When their Deity calls them on their hypocrisy, I'd love to be there to see them try to explain there unwillingness to care for the gift they squandered in that deity's name.

not sure i just posted the same question after looking through the history on my google search and i clicked on will the earth end in 2012 and i mean theirs a reason for these people to come up with the idea and the earth may not destroy itself we might destroy it with all the wars and the riots in iran scary you never ever know what might happen next i dont know what im saying but i think im making sense here
No. A lot of people believed in the crap about 2000 and probably they felt disappointed and now turned on 2012. Revolts are possible, wars, the same, quakes and tornadoes, but there will be no end of the Earth. You'll see for yourself in 2013. Have a nice day
People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of time, or at least of the human race. Take a look at this link.

Look at the state of the world today: Riots in Iran, war, global deppression... It's a wonder we are still HERE.
No.

I think its a safe bet to say we will all still be here.
i'll see you in 2013.
No.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.

These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

%26quot;But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.%26quot; (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.
