I want my own mind to belong to me.
Ever notice how the world just wants your mind?
As a design student, I'm encouraged to think about these things a lot. The way I see it, this effect is caused by a combination of greed, and the superiority complex which is held by most humans to some degree.
To protect your on mind, simply be aware and avoid as best you can. Unfortunately, politics dictates you cannot avoid it completely in this world. There are few remote areas left in the world, let alone accessible ones.

I'd like to comment... but I'm far too busy being delicious. Mmm-hm!

They don't just want my mind. They also want my sexy, sexy body. Mmm-hmm.
That is easily done, ignore them. I build and sell things so I do not even have to think about peoples problems to get a paycheck. Splinters and dull blades should be my big problems in life!
It is control of thoughts and behaviors they are really after -- just like how you seeded this question so answers would came out the way you expect them. ;)
You do the last dish. You sweep the last crumb from the floor. There's your kitchen. Spotless. Now, what do you deserve as a reward for all that hard work? A drink - and perhaps a little something to nibble on. And what have you created in the process of getting these? Precisely! Like the snake that eats its own tail, the cycle of domestic duty is endless. In other areas of life, too, it seems as if certain processes will never come to a close. Perhaps that's so, but their tides will still ebb and flow.

No, I really haven't notice this. I do know that the government and business want my money though.
