  • What can we do to educate our doctors?

Dictionaries define the word ’doctor’ as ‘learned’, ‘teacher’, ‘most highly qualified’ etc. However, at least in our country, doctors are among the most ignorant. It may be natural for a doctor not to know much about hydro-geology. It may be possible for him not to be aware of the latest breakthroughs in astro-physics. But for a doctor not know much about Medicine, or not to be aware of the developments in his specialty is not only untenable, but also dangerous and criminal. Yet, there are thousands of doctors in our country who do not know much about Medicine, as it is practised today. Most of these doctors, it will be surprising to know, are very busy practitioners. I personally know of professors of Medicine who advise patients of Rheumatoid Arthritis to get Ayurvedic help since there is no drug in Modern Medicine (still erroneously and unfortunately called Allopathy, meaning “approximate”) for this disease. This is when even the most basic of textbooks of Medicine has a few pages discussing the drugs available for the treatment of this disease. Of course, the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis, like that of most other medical illnesses, is developing and improving continually.

“Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine”, the most trusted and respected resource on General Medicine all over the world, says, “Medicine is an ever-changing science.” It is estimated that about 50% of the medical knowledge is replaced by new, scientifically researched, proven and more robust information every ten years. This would mean that a person who qualified ten years ago and since has not tried to update his knowledge is 50% outdated. He may be more dangerous than the diseases that he treats!

One important contribution for ignorant doctors come from private medical colleges. People purchase their degrees from these business institutions. Not much is taught or learned in most of these places.

Paradoxically, it is frequently a blessing for a doctor not to know much. If one knows enough and well, relevant differential diagnoses (the other likely possibilities that must be excluded) will come to the mind when seeing a patient. It may make investigating and treating rather difficult, given the peculiar milieu of our country.

It is important to introduce new legislation that makes it compulsory for doctors to renew their license every year after passing an examination designed to prove that their medical knowledge is up-to-date. It is unclear why the Government are reluctant to make any move in this direction, though one can make a few guesses.
What can we do to educate our doctors?
Medicine has been an enormous failure in so many ways. What else can you think of that has hyper-inflation year after year and produces very little for the increase in cost.

People are obese, unhealthy, and sick. Medical care costs ten times more now than it did only 15 years ago, but our life expetancy hasn't changed by any measurable amount, and in fact may be declining. Many think that today's children my be the first generation to die at a younger age than their parents.

Medicine hasn't cured anything in 50 years. We still have cancer, diabetes, aids, herpes, influenza, autism, pneumonia, and many other horrible diseases and at HIGHER rates than they were a generation ago. Our treatments for many of these diseases cost tens of thousands of dollars a year (if not a month) and have not increased our life in terms of years or quality. There is no prevention, only bandaids and pills. There is no cure, only tests and more tests.

Healthcare is indeed a failure, unless you are one of those getting rich from it.
What can we do to educate our doctors?
Been to med school, have you? (ETA: apparently he has.)

    Thought not.

I am willing to be as noisy as you like regarding doctors who espouse such nonsense as aruveydic practice. Or homeopathy, or acupuncture, or ay other pseudoscientific mumbo-jumbo you like. It's bunkum. Horsefeathers. Bull puckey. Does that help?

I happen not to go to a private medical school, but I am not aware that the curriculum varies significantly from the public university I do attend. The idea that students at *any* medical school %26quot;purchase%26quot; their diplomas does not bear scrutiny. There are standardized exams every year or so that every medical student must take and pass to remain in medical school. Are you aware that these exist?

I am all too aware that there is much that I do not know, and even more aware that there is more being discovered every day. Sorting through new discoveries in any one given field is a career in itself.

Renewing one's license every year is probably impractical. The examining boards alone would preclude it. However, your dialectic would seem to indicate that you believe that doctors never requalify. This is simply not true. They must, if they wish to remain certified, and regularly.

I own a copy of Harrison's. I consult it frequently. Have you read any of it beyond your quote? (ETA: Probably he has.)

I understand that your mind is unlikely to be changed by what you will undoubtedly see as the defensive rantings of an oversensitive medical student. However, any others who may be unfortunate enough to happen by should know this. Nothing that anyone like this can say can make me any less proud of the profession I have chosen to pursue. No such lies or disrespect can make me any less determined to do the best I can by my future patients. And no self-satisfied, priggish diatribe by someone who has clearly been educated beyond his ability to comprehend can possibly make the practice of medicine any less important to those who are ill.

If you think so much is wrong with the current system--and I am far from defending the peculiar mix of insurance and misinformation that does seem to permeate this country--then I suggest you get off your *** and help change it. (ETA: Wrong country, apparently.)

You know--like my classmates and me. The ones actually doing the work.
You raise some VERY good points doctor.

[And answerer %26quot;PS%26quot; raised my eyebrows]

1st - there is repeat testing for medical boards in the US though not every year - that would be a bit much to expect.

2nd - medicine has cured some diseases over the past fifty years - most notably SOME forms of cancer (ask Lance Armstrong). Unfortunately the kinds of cancer and leukemia that can be cured are relatively infrequent compared to incurable cancers such as advanced lung cancers which are predominately due to smoking. Doctors don't cause smoking.

3rd - Obesity in America and elsewhere cannot be blamed on uneducated doctors. People need to help us help them.

4th - You are correct that knowledge of differential diagnoses can lead to more testing. More testing costs more. We have many new tests and treatments which are very expensive. The successful cure of Lance Armstrong's widely metastatic malignancy would have been very expensive, but without it he would be dead today. How much is a human life worth?

5th - You know the answer to the question about legislation. The doctor lobby is a strong one, but I'd venture to say that the insurance company and pharmaceutical lobbies are even stronger. The %26quot;people lobby%26quot; diminishes in comparison.

Lastly - When I was a practicing cancer and leukemia specialist working very long hours, I still made sure to spend an hour a day with journals to keep up with the latest. I always did my paperwork immediately which takes more time actually than the patient care does. The result is that I burned out after 13 years of practice (after 13 years to get board certified in my specialties in the first place). There are only so many hours in the day. It is very difficult to be all knowing and always available. It can mean you have no life. Heck, I didn't even make a lot of money since many of the people I saw could not pay. You can decide not to put braces on a patient's teeth when they have no money to pay, but you cannot refuse to treat a life threatening leukemia or cancer for that reason - at least I could or would not turn any patient away for poor finances. There are doctors who try. I have known others like me who have burned out trying too hard.
In the USA, education requirements vary from state to state but most require relicensure on a two to four year basis. With the application for renewal the physician must certify that he or she has completed continuing medical education courses (CME), roughly 50 hours (or credits) per year. Most specialty boards require a re-certification exam every 7 to ten years. In addition to being challenging, it is also expensive to take, both in exam fees and time lost to prepare. Many hospitals require board certification for staff membership and many HMO's and PPO's require it also. And for the cynics out there, many of us want the public to be aware of our qualifications.

As to the increasing costs of health care, look first at managed care where 20% of health care dollars go to administrative costs and top executives earn salaries above $30 million per year. Additionally, the ever increasing standard of care drives up the cost. Finally, you require seven to ten years (including residency and fellowship) of intensive post college education, so you must expect that a person who has accomplished this ordeal will expect compensation.
can't. Medical doctors follow a protocol and are based on patients having same symptoms being treated repeatelly most of the cases. each pt is treated differently but with same protocol.
WOW! I am inclined to think either you are not satisfied with the course you've taken or you got disappointed with the medical field .must have been a serious reason for you to deduce such. Although, I agree with you that %26quot;doctoring' doesn't end really upon obtaining one's license. Not everyone who passes the medical licensure exams goes into residency. Some just become General Practitioners.Whether one does either, a doctor should be updated at all times. Medicine is really a dynamic science. What may be true now might be false tomorrow. Many things have already changed;be it for the best or worst , such that if a doctor is really not updated, surely, it's the patient that suffers as you've pointed out. Here in the Philippines, for instance, we can still see General Practitioners giving IM injections in the clinic when in fact, it was long ago discouraged.Giving IM injections in the %26quot;hip area%26quot; to children are also still being done by some .A continuing medical education is what is really needed whether one is a general practitioner or a specialist. The Philippine Regulation Commission which regulates all profession except for lawyers requires a certain number of CME units before renewal of license i.e. every 3 years. Each subspecialty society also requires their members certain number of units also before being considered a member in good standing. A certificate on this is required by some agencies before becoming an accredited physician. I think these activities allows one to become in touch with what is going on around and update or review ones knowledge.A good doctor also needs to attend more scientific meetings, convention to enhance personal professional growth.

To my fellow colleagues in the medical field,i guess it's time to grow professionally. Patient's look up at us and give all their trust to us in case of illness. Let's go back to the old practice of %26quot;patient's first before anything else%26quot;.Money will follow..

I'm about to legally change my last name. How should I tell people?

I'm an adult in the business world. I haven't had a relationship with my father in years, and I'm changing my last name to my mother's legal/maiden name.
I'm about to legally change my last name. How should I tell people?
You've found the right person for this question! I am 44 and I legally changed my last name to my mother's maiden name when I was 17 because I have always had a horrible relationship with my father. I didn't want his name, and he was very angry about it, but I felt it was the right thing to do for me. I would just inform people that you work with that you are changing your last name for personal reasons, and leave it at that. You have NO obligation to tell anyone anything more personal about this than that. I think you're making a brave statement about who you want to be, and it takes guts to realize you don't want to carry on your father's name. When I changed my name, of course I was only 17, but legally it is fine if you change your name - just by doing it- I went to the DMV and got my last name changed. I notified Social Security and did the same thing. I didn't need a lawyer or anything. I even got a passport in my name. (It takes about seven years for you to use your new name legally to apply for a passport, fyi) Anyway, as I've mentioned, if anyone asks, you changed your last name for personal reasons. And if you want to tell people, you can choose to be honest and say that you haven't had a real relationship with your father for years, and your new last name is your mother's maiden name. No more explanation is required. Good luck!
I'm about to legally change my last name. How should I tell people?
I would do it the same way as married women do it. Send out an email stating that your name is changing and please update your contacts accordingly. Or...just change it in your personal life and leave the same at work until you go to a new job.
If your doing PRON yes change your name..Due to safety issue's.You really didn't mention what kind of Adult business your doing so that's why I'm assuming this.. if it's because your getting married then yes...Good Luck.
Just tell them you changed your name and what your

new name is. You don't have to give out any more

info than that. If its someone you trust and want to give

out more info as to why you changed it then you can.
Just say that due to some personal reasons you are legally changing your name and from now it will be [insert the name here.] If they are friends or family you may want to elaborate on it, if they are acquaintances, business contacts etc. just leave it at that.
Have your business cards changed and start introducing yourself in your new last name. If anyone asks why, tell them that it is a personal matter. As for friends, it may take them awhile to adjust, but they will. (Look at all the women who get married and take their husbands last name).
It depends on which way you want to go about it. You could either tell individuals as the need arises or you could send out a type of announcement. You could type something on the computer or have a printer prepare formal announcements. You could say %26quot;Please be advised that John J. Doe has formally changed his name to John J. Johnson. Please forward all correspondence to Mr. Johnson as his usual address.%26quot; or %26quot;John J. Doe proudly wishes to announce that he has changed his name to JOHN J. JOHNSON. Please make note of this change. You may continue to forward all correspondence to Mr. Johnson as his address of 123 My Highway, Your Town, USA%26quot;. Good luck to you and may God Bless you.
You should print up cute little post cards and send them to everyone. You could get a great pic of you and your mom together for the front!
Hold a party with your family and friends and when everyone comes in introduce yourself with your new name. It would also be a great excuse to have a party..

How did both the American & Australian Government possibly get away with screwing the electoral polls?

We all know how they did it (via illegal hacking into the internet mainframe with outside assistance).

BUT my question is how the HELL did both losers (John HOW?WAR!DUH! %26amp; Georgie Porgie W BUSHWEEK) get away with it, and blatantly pulled it off in front of the whole world, and considering such fraudulent business in Australian Government, is Aussie government really as pathetic as the American Government as they've been showing us of late? Have we really joined America's ratrace of ULTIMATE self DOOM!

It would be a nice change to be proven wrong for once I must say, I mean I only hope that the perception of the majority is wrong for all our sakes...Let me know what you think, maybe you could put this old silent warriors mind at ease at give me some reason to put faith back into our future government, because quite frankly everything they do at the moment is completely appauling and is absolutely disgusting %26amp; irrelevant to our Nations future with the rest of the world, let alone us.
How did both the American %26amp; Australian Government possibly get away with screwing the electoral polls?
I don't know why you think that the Australian elections were rigged. They were conducted the way they have always been and the votes were counted the way they have always been. I know it is hard to believe but Howard and his mob got in because the Liberals won - fair and square.

The reason that we are going down the toilet, especially in international terms, is that Howard has an unhealthy and sycophantic adoration of George Bush and his mates and is copying Bush's policies at every opportunity. If you look at all the things that Howard has done with immigration, terrorist laws and nuclear (to name a few), they almost to the letter reflect the policies of the Bush administration so that Australia has become a little mini copy of the US. This is what Howard wants and this is what he is turning Australia into.

In Australia, the rich are getting very much richer and the less rich are working longer and harder for less money. We have to pay for more public services than ever before and the %26quot;tax cuts%26quot; that are given to placate critics have actually been a major influence on interest rates by increasing inflation. The only people who are better off than they have ever been (as Howard keeps telling us we are!!) are those in the upper income bracket and those who already have more than their fair share of the money and power.

The ordinary Aussie battlers are getting screwed and come next election Howard will realise that the majority of Australians are fed up with all his BS and that it is time for a change.
How did both the American %26amp; Australian Government possibly get away with screwing the electoral polls?
We live in countries that have voter that concern themselves with what is in it for them to the point that they are so blinded by the promises and the artificial fearmongering that they cannot see the lies until the reality bites them after the election. the majority are not necessarily right it often means that more people are wrong.
No manipulation occurred, except (in the US) in Wisconsin, which was almost certainly stolen for Kerry.
Leaving aside your major delusions, let me set one thing straight. Mainframes are pretty much the most secure form of computer, in use today.

It is generally FAR (REPEAT, FAR) harder to hack a mainframe than any other machine.

By comparison, web servers running Linux are Swiss cheese.
    Gotta love conspiracy theorists!

You ****! Howard got in because the majority of aussies voted for him. There was no rigging. The federal government has don a great job, and has made some tough decisions to ensure that we are not like the other countries e.g. the US.

    Because of howard

    1. People can get a job if they want one

    2. Interest rates are still within safe limits

    3. Inflation is within safe limits

    4. Australia has no governement debt

    5. Australia can handle turbulent foreign markets without too much impact on our own economy

People who vote for Rudd next election will be voting because they are selfish. They cannot see that things like workchoices are there for the greater good. They also only look at the short term pay issues, rather than realising that thousands of people now have jobs and no longer live in poverty, thanks to the flexability that the workchoices reforms allowed businesses. More women can now rejoin the work force without being restricted by Union agreements. People can work as much or as little as they want, and negotiate conditions individually to suit their own work/life balance. Stop the scare campaign and get back to your bachelor of arts degree.
The majority of people does not believe what you are spewing because it is totally false. It's so false that even you know it's false. Nice try.

All of our Presidential candidates are either wealthy or rich. Why should I believe that they have me in mind?

Wealth rules politics, wealth rules business, wealth rules power! The millionaire, the multi-millionaire, the billionaire, the multi-billionaire; do you really think that these people are going to change our country enough that we, the 'Have-Nots', and the 'have little, but want more's', are going to be able to make wealth for ourselves? Should they change the world for the better for us, they will be destroying the very social structure that has given them, and that guarantees them, their wealth, power and greed! It will always be 'No way Hose' on this one.

A king will never abdicate his throne.

Our present political candidates are 'lying through their teeth' about making this country better for the masses. They dream about giving away their money, but the reality is that they only want more money and more POWER! Look at how great the gulf between have and have-not has become, in this country, in the last 30 years or more. Our situation is getting poorer and poorer, they richer, hmmm?
All of our Presidential candidates are either wealthy or rich. Why should I believe that they have me in mind?
    Bingo!
All of our Presidential candidates are either wealthy or rich. Why should I believe that they have me in mind?
While you obviously have to be wealthy to participate in politics at the highest levels, I don't think that precludes politicians from legitimately wanting to bring about beneficial change for the lower and middle classes. Also, many politicians who are currently well off came from humble beginnings. Those tough early years can shape a person's perspective for life, and often this allows rich people to continue to identify with the working class.

I continue to believe in our system, and I hope that we can see a trend towards honesty in politics, no matter the subject.
Most of the politicians are puppets of the globalist bankers such as the Rothchilds and Rockefellers. You should never believe what politicians say. Just look at their actions to see what they're really up to. More and more people are brainwashed by mainstream media and fooled into thinking that these stringed puppets care about the well being of American citizens. But common sense and clear logic should show you that they care about themselves and their globalist agenda.
first who told you that they have your best interest in mind?

They do not, they have their ego and a chance to leave a mark in the history books in mind. They get paid less to perform public office positions then they can make on the outside world. (However they build some dandy contacts for later busness).

There is no intend to get rid of the have and have nots, the better ones try to make sure the have nots do not starve and get the a little medical treatment at least.

However basic Capitalistic business will tell you that the rich create jobs to make a profit and provide jobs that are NOT going to loss them monies. This allows the poor to have work, earn money and survive and the rich to take in all the rest. IFa worker is smart enough he creates a %26quot;job%26quot;, %26quot;product%26quot; or %26quot;business%26quot; of his own and tries to join the ranks of the rich. Very simple concept, if the media is telling you that you are valuble person just because you exist then you are buying a load of crap.

The rich just learned early how the rules are played by and keep the rules quite. After all they need the worker bees to make a profit.
I've got to ask. What's the difference between wealthy and rich?

Your premise seems to be that politicians only act in their own, or their class's, self interest. If that is the case then a poor politician will be just as bad and self serving as a rich / wealthy one.

If they are rich then at least they are less tempted by bribery.
What's the difference between wealthy and rich? They need money to get elected. Some families have wealth (e.g., Kennedy). Others have made money on the backs of average Americans (e.g., Edwards - trial attorney). They are all greedy for power.
Yes - Republicans have proven they want more wealth and power.

OTOH - John Edwards wasn't born rich - and understands the daily burden of Americans trying to make it in a world where the Republicans have deliberately widened the gap between rich and poor by focusing their constituents on hating gays and abortion. Oh- and Dems too.

Edwards has the best ideas and the most specific - and will represent ALL Americans.

    Edwards - YaaaY!!
Out of all the obstacles to wealth, which one is the greatest? the most formidable?

Business majors I need some advice please?

i have taken accounting and economics already(prerequistes only) and it find it really bland....boring....and not interesting at all...i've always wanted to work in business...but what u learn in the classroom u rarely use in the real world....because it is BORING to me i have been thinking of changing my major ....i mean if acct and economics classes dont interest me...do u think i will be even less motivated as i get further into the degree?!??
Business majors I need some advice please?
One of the frustrations with the way these things are structured is that the only business classes you get to take for the first two years are usually economics, statistics, and accounting. For those of us who like the people side of business, it often is a complete turn-off. I'm not a student - I'm a marketing professor - but it is something my colleagues and I have often discussed. Know that you WILL use those skills in the real world (I filled in in an administrative job last year and was forced to use my 30-year old accounting skills!), but that there is very little in common between what you have taken so far and what you will get when you start to take your management and marketing classes. I went into business because I liked working with people, not numbers, and that was true of most of my classmates. You really do need to know the numbers in order to work with the people, but trust me - there is more to life than what you have already experienced!
Business majors I need some advice please?
Let me throw this at you. Here! Catch!

According to a recent article in Business Week, 90% of the CEO's come up through accounting.

Yes, accounting is boring. its dirty work, but those who do it well are rewarded quite handsomely.,

Accounting I is, you have 30 widgets on the shelf, you paid $ 50.00 each for them.

You buy 10 more at $ 55.00. cost. You sell 15 for $ 53.50, each. what did they cost you,

Take intro to financial accounting. That was a fun cost, because it had real world applications.

  • Family business & choosing a major,. Please Help!?

Im a 19 year old sophomore female majoring in business at uni and got 2 more years to go. However,I feel like im wasting my time here and also not enjoying it though i know have an aptitude to study business and wanting to make it as my career. Its just that im so confused right now and having a hard time atm as im expected to acquire two types of degree at once which are the bachelor in business and automotive engineering and Im very much certain of myself that it would drive me insane and even now, im so worn out now just by thinking of this problematic idea which is mainly suggested by my dad whos the director in the family business at the moment.

I became to be involved in the family business focused on Automotive repair services for 3years , However ive kinda lost passion for it right now as im incapable of handling all the things happening in my current life and few weeks ago, when i was doing a work on the car, changing brake pads and I was totally out of concentration at that time, thinking about how to fix/overcome this problem and eventually this was led into a stupid mistake - Forgot to put the caliper back on the front-left side of tyre. Every employees there saw my mistake and made a fun of me indirectly by talking about me behind my back, treating me like i wont be able to do anything cuz im a female.I find working with guys in a male-dominated business hard enough as being an opposite gender.Anyways Ive done this work lot of time and this was my first time making a mistake on it. I understand the concept of workplace/society is harsh and that many people around you will act harsh on ya as they want to win over you and bring you down and so on. This being said I accepted my negligence though i felt hurt inside because of how this has been a 'hot' topic for few weeks. So in addition to this, I thought its rather better for me to switch my path to Automotive engineering as early as possible as so that i can upgrade my skills/technique to competitive level as my dads employees' and that I actually want to specialise in this business. In addition to this, if i ever want to study business in future, then ill go for a graduate certificate or graduate diploma in business which would take 6months to a year to complete as according to the info booklet provided by the uni im currently attending to and in regard to this, it is stated that you would be only studying the few papers based on what youve chosen.

I ll need to go to a polytechnic to major in automotive engineering because from where Im from which is NZ and as opposed to US where there are many many community colleges, universities, here in NZ there are only 7 universities and non of them offer automotive engineering courses, though they have engineering courses that require you a 4-5yrs of study and it involves many theoretical work but hardly practical work provided as you may already know of. This means that i ll need to switch into another tertiary education provider in which this does not matter to me at all, but dad thinks reputation is what matters the most so that i can get into big corporates but then at the same time he pursues that i should take over the family business hence i should know in depth about cars and business.

My question is that, does having a business degree itself gurantee you anything successful in future, does it really matter?Majority of yahoo answers regarding 'Is it worthing having a business degree?%26quot; seem to be too general as most of the answers are like %26quot; yes, you can earn $$$ a year, make yourself rich n you can work in the famous financial institutions around the world,, and of course you will be more recognised than those who dont have a degree%26quot;.It makes sense at some point but Ive heard this million times so,, I just want a different answer here as I need to make myself a decision based on the most reasonable justification and pursue my dream regardless of what the obstacles are.

My dad is the main person whom I have a trouble with and have argument with. Despite of this, I am a motivated person wanting to achieve in something and its not bad being in the family business but im just not certain how to solve the anxiety thats affecting my life at the moment.I just cannot understand the concept of majoring in two different types of subject at once, cuz i aint a production robot .Moreover this would mean I ll need to attend two different unis and it would double and triple the student loan i get.Its almost impossible and having a quality personal life is significant! Id rather go for one thing and let the other becomes the opportunity cost and just learn the business aspects in a real practice.

Do you think it is too late to switch the path?

your advice and opinions are kindly appreciated

    Young Jeezy - Crazy World

    2nd single off The Recession

    By Shaheem Reid

NEW YORK 鈥?%26quot;Mr. 17.5%26quot; is now %26quot;Mr. September 2.%26quot; Young Jeezy joked Monday night that he's changing his nickname until his upcoming album, The Recession, drops.

He held a small listening session for his third LP at Katra Lounge. He's upgraded himself lyrically and spread himself out thematically, while the beats have a sinister, %26quot;Dark Knight%26quot;-like edge to them.

    On %26quot;Vacation,%26quot; he talks about going home to get back to reality and feeling most comfortable around his people. %26quot;I'm minding my business, why is n---as hatin'?%26quot; he asks on the track. %26quot;I keep it too real, why is n---as fakin'?%26quot;

The title track begins with a woman complaining about the high price of gasoline and struggling with other monetary problems. %26quot;The rich get richer, the poor get poorer,%26quot; she laments.

    Jeezy comes in and promises to %26quot;give everybody hope.%26quot; Even he has to pray aloud in these tough times: %26quot;Wish I had me some money/ I'd buy me some better luck.%26quot;

%26quot;Crazy World%26quot; revolves around the wild reality of Young Jeezy 鈥?someone with riches to spare but, despite his great intentions, can't save the whole world. Top on his priority list is helping an ailing aunt in need of a kidney transplant.

    Young describes %26quot;I'm Amazing%26quot; as %26quot;the new national trap-star anthem.%26quot;

    %26quot;My President's Black%26quot; has been long talked about but only heard by a select few. It's definitely one of the album's deepest records, but you can't let yourself be fooled by the hook, on which he boasts, %26quot;My president's black/ My Lambo's blue/ I'll be goddamned if my rims ain't too.%26quot;

    Jeezy's stuntin' game is indeed up, but he also speaks from the perspective of the people when he talks about what his ideal commander in chief would need to accomplish. %26quot;We need a miracle,%26quot; he raps. %26quot;I say 'a miracle' 'cause this sh--'s hysterical.%26quot;

After Katra, it was off to the Bronx's Sin City with a slew of DJs, such as S%26amp;S and Statik Selektah. Celebrities such as Nets player Vince Carter and Dead Prez's M-1 also came through.

What do ya'll think of Young Jeezy going politically conscious? Sounds like the ni99a Nas had a siit down with him after that 'Hip Hop Is Dead' drama.

Project for school: start a Business yourself, what things to sell?

    Hi,

Im a 17years old economy student and need to start a business as a project for school.

I`ve never done it before and need to merchandise with a kind of supplies.

Now i ask you people, what are things that have a good surviving change in the outside world?

Don`t come with bracelets or silly stuff,i need real deal things to practise with.
Project for school: start a Business yourself, what things to sell?
Look around you and see what stores are successful and have been in business for some time. Then apply those principals you have learned to that type of business. The usual pick is a MOm %26amp; Pop grocery store. In a neighborhood yet on a busy street. Good parking. Quick in and out. Not near a Walmart or big grocery store.

Here's a good story. Two college guys come to the beach here for spring break. They see there is a need for a surf shop and they build a very casual one. Everyone comes because it is the cool place to be. It is right off an exclusive area and they all come so they start selling swimming suits etc. As the more wealthy come they sell more expensive stuff and build a better bigger place and it is still the cool place. They were there for several years and doing well but then a hurricane came in and washed them away. They didn't buy insurance. They went back to college. True story.

Is is worth it to spend your scientific career helping scientific education in a third world country?

I am an Indonesian undergraduate student in a decent private university in the USA; I am double majoring in environmental science (conservation biology concentration hopefully) and earth science. At first I study environmental and earth science because I just love the subject, especially on paleoclimate reconstruction and providing scientific facts about climate change. I also have a second interest in evolutionary and thus conservation biology (thanks to Jared Diamond and Dawkins). As my knowledge grows however, sometimes it breaks my heart to see the utter backwardness of science education in my home country (for example they thought it was a good idea to cut down a tropical forest, releasing all the CO2 from the peat bogs, and then plant palm oil trees and sell it as green energy source). For a country with 4th largest population in the world, zero Nobel prize is quite unacceptable. And for some reason, all wealthy people from my country who can afford western education decide to study business and finance instead of science (we have a quite small Indonesian community here in the US and as far as I know like 90% of them study business/finance and a fraction of people study engineering). Finally, just now my friend from Indonesia told me that the head of Biology department in Pelita Harapan University (that's like #1 private university although in Indonesia public university is considered better than privates) doesn't even believe in evolution. I really want to help change something in my home country but I don't think a single person like me can change an entire country (world most populous muslim country with equally insane christians). Sometimes I feel that it is a lost cause and I can just say %26quot;screw my home country%26quot; and go to antarctica drilling ice core (in Fall'11 hopefully I'll be going there as research assistant) or just do more mainstream scientific work here in the US.
Is is worth it to spend your scientific career helping scientific education in a third world country?
    My honest opinion:

Third World countries, with their stupidity, lack of education and huge populations will , in the end, destroy this planet.

And truthfully, most of those who are educated and out of those countries, such as yourself see no reason to return. You have one life, of about 80 years, and you are fighting an uphill battle of ignorance, politics greed and religion.

Do yourself a favor, first of all. Go to the library in your area and watch a movie made in the 60's called Soylent Green. On DVD about anywhere.

You will see a future crowded, filthy planet, where the masses of people are uneducated.... too many rats in the cage, so to speak. And reflections of a time when this planet was beautiful in the scene with Edward G. Robinson, and he decides to die.

Religions are the absolute bane of humanity. And they are all crazy. There are too few people like Diamond, Dawkins, Carl Sagan, and others who have a message.... that this is the only home of the humanity of the universe. And unless we save this home,---we. all of us together, as a community of humanity ----- we are all doomed. We cannot do that. Because of religion, politics and greed...... And I truly believe that this planet has less than 300 years.

All that has to happen is one nut job in the Middle East lob an atomic weapon at another Middle Eastern crazy country, and truthfully? It is over. And if the US ever elects a true crazy like McCain or Palin, it may be over even sooner.

This planet faces the destruction of its environment because of mismanagement of its resources (such as you have mentionedin Indonesia. ... It is going on all over everywhere.

    Hopeless.

In your place, I'd do no harm to this planet, and for sure do what you can to help those of us who care about future generations, but to waste your life tossing yourself in the this fray? Nuts.

Even Dawkins, Sagan, and Diamond have done little. And they are hugely well known.

    Don't bother.

Enjoy learning what you wish to learn, be the best person you can be, but understand, that religion, politicians and greed will win out............ over us all.

Watch this video... only 4 minutes and beautiful, I promise.

    Your conviction can do wonders.

It is much better to serve in ones own country rather than try to find a pebble in the ocean of scientists and serve in a place already affluent and glutted with scientists. Your small contribution will be appreciated in your own country. You may face hardship, and your colleagues may discourage you, but you will have an innate satisfaction of having worked in your motherland, where you grew up and where your forefathers lived and died. In today's world with INTERNET and all that you can communicate with others any way and you can carve out your name by working in your country.
do you morally convince your self that you are doing teh right things

ask yourself within your heart and ask your self is it worth me to spend time teaching people in third world country

i think that it is not worth it because i can't fit to the third world country, i just can't

Anyone out there looking for this? "Desiderata" something to carry in your pocket!?

%26quot;Desiderata%26quot; Go placidly amid the noise and the haste and remember what peace there my be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terma with all persons. Speak your truth clearly, and listen to others, Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself to others you may become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your career however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself, especially do not feign affection. Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perenial as the grass. Continued!

Amazing how such a stunning and simple piece of work that sets out a way of life has its origins in controversy and myth.

Max Ehrmann, the author, wrote the piece in the 1920,s and included it on a private Christmas card to friends, it was reproduced in 1959 on church note paper claiming the origin as The Old St Pauls Church AD 1692. bringing on legal suits and plagiarism claims.

Some one obviously missed the spirit of the piece entirely!

  • American looking for business grad school in Europe?

Ok, I will be the first to admit that undergraduate studies were such a distraction for me. However, the fact that I was able to graduate with a B-, is truly a miracle. I majored in history, and wouldnt have changed it for the world. It really enabled me to think outside of the box, and put life into perspective. I had the chance to study in Spain a few years back, and ever since my return, I have really missed the European way of life. Someday, I really would like to get into business for myself. Where would be a great place in Europe to study? I only speak English well. I really feel that I can buckle down with graduate school. Education is really important to me, and I feel that I am ready for this. Thanks
American looking for business grad school in Europe?
If you are thinking about going into business for yourself, I recommend to skip business school. Business school is not like medical or law school. It does not give you a license to practice a trade. You can do business without going to business school. Experience will be much more of a factor of success than business school. Frankly, it is highly debated whether business school teaches students to run a business. It is MUCH less likely that business school will help you to be an entrepreneur. Read here about what a business degree will give to you:

    http://www.top-business-schools.info/Wow鈥?/a>

This study article will give you a thorough overview of what to expect from business school:

    http://www.aomonline.org/Publications/Ar鈥?/a>

    In short the authors, both Stanford Business School Professors write of business school: %26quot;Students learn to talk about business, but it is not clear they learn business,%26quot;

If you want to move to Europe, I recommend to start a business and use that as a reason to apply for a residency permit. If you are a US citizen and you set up a BV (limited liability company) in Holland you will very likely be given a residency permit. Holland has a special law that allows US citizens to start businesses and get residency permits. It is a bit on the expensive side to do it, but ALOT less expensive than going to business school.

There are other countries where you can do something similar and it depends on what type of business you want to do. Many European governments are interested in attracting entrepreneurs. Some have high criteria (eg Germany requires you to invest $10 million and hire 10 employees) others do not. You need to investigate further if this is of interest to you.

If you decide anyway to go to business school, check out the website below:

Try asking each question separately, you may get more answers.

How long can our society/culture go like this, before the crud hits the fan?

How much longer can we have all this craziness on around us, and money hungry corporate interests, sucking all the soul and resources and what not from the earth, until it becomes a rotating ball of goblins? It's already on its way, and even if religion is BS and there is no end days or the end of the world, even if you are an atheist, you really can't sit there and deny how screwed up things are getting, and have been throughout history.

We should be concerned. Why? Because our people today have more resources to information and have more ways of getting to places, and learning new things. People today could simply realize that life is short and not fair, so they can turn nihilist or all sorts of other ills, and go crazy on society.

WIthout naming the problems as there are many, it's obvious that things are not changing, and how much longer can we keep doing the same ol'routine, 9 to 5 for the mid class, welfare for the lower, global business for the upper, yadda yadda,
How long can our society/culture go like this, before the crud hits the fan?
yes most people are getting crazier and become slave of their wrong needs and wants in life.by informing the people about the negative effects of most activities, the tendency to havenegative effects might be possible.
How long can our society/culture go like this, before the crud hits the fan?
COR ON MY LEVEL OR WHAT THINK IT HITS THE FAN EVERYDAY SMELL GETS WORSE WHATBIS IT ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL CARS SMELL OF BADEGGS HOW IS THAT GOOD FOR ENVIRONMENT?ONE DAY THE WORLD WILL TRANSFORM TO GIANT FAN THEN DOUBLE WHAMMY LOCK YA SELF INDOORS

At 28, how do I get into the world of investment banking, i.e. like a trainee analyst at Goldman Sachs?

I attended film school, and after about 5 years in the business I am looking for a change of career. I was told that large investment companies look not only for people with business degrees or MBA's but also people from different backgrounds such as liberal arts. Is 28 too late?
At 28, how do I get into the world of investment banking, i.e. like a trainee analyst at Goldman Sachs?
I work for an investment bank and we would hire you if you're any good. new age discrimination legislation means It's illegal now for banks to hire only recent grads

All the big investment banks have annual graduate recruitment programmes. they start interviewing for the 2007 intake very soon indeed, so start applying now. you can do it on their websites. My the bank I work for (and quite like, having worked for a large American investment bank previously) is called Macquarie:

    http://www.macquarie.com/uk/aboutus/careers/graduate_recruitment.htm

You should think carefully about it, though. it's a very tough career. long hours, and sometimes boring work early on. also, you will be a bit older than most of the guys you start with (although new starters from the continent are often in their mid to late 20's).

however, the work can sometimes be exciting, you learn a lot about finance, and the pay is obviously very good (starting salaries typically around 拢35k, with a discretionary bonus of maybe around 拢20k at the end of the first year). at banks such as Goldman Sachs, though, you can honestly kiss your social life goodbye, at least for the first few years. 80 hour weeks are common.
At 28, how do I get into the world of investment banking, i.e. like a trainee analyst at Goldman Sachs?

I don't think 28 is too late. I work at a top uni and there are plenty of mature students doing the BSc and MSc in Econ or Finance and many end up in Goldman Sachs. I would have thought you would need a degree, preferably a postgrad degree, but it is never too late for anything - go for it!
I went to their offices in London recently (cos my company works for them in one area) and the offices blew me away! It was nicer than a 5 star hotel, I want to work there too!

    How to change airline loyalty?

I'm a frequent business traveller and the company I work for recently announced we're changing preferred airlines at the end of the year. My favorite airline didn't make the list so I have to pick another airline. I don't want to lose my status, though. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can %26quot;shop%26quot; my status around to the different airlines my company wants us to use, and get one of them to give me preferred status from my very first flight? I really don't care about the actual miles; if I lose them, it's not the end of the world. I just want to keep my preferred status.

I have about 45 segments so far this year so I am a pretty hardcore traveller but I'd love to hear some suggestions for someone who may have less, too, because all of my co-workers are now in the same boat.

    Thanks!!!
    How to change airline loyalty?
This is a hunch based on logic and some experience: Beyond (or above?) the bureacrats who mechanically run the frequent flier program by strict guidelines, you may find one or more executives or managers who have the responsibility to please and retain the best customers via real customer service. Find them by name and talk with them on a personal level about your situation.

For help in finding the person, consider chatting up:

    1. Airline employees away from work

    2. Travel insider newsletter editors. (NPR used to run a feature by a man named, I think, Rudy Maxa a.k.a. The Savvy Traveller.)

You can also try calling the loyalty program and just work your way up the chain of command until you find a decision maker. Not easy, but be persistent.

Finally, check out the various ratings of airlines by customer satisfaction. (J.D. Power may have such.) Start with Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines and work downward.

Finally, finally, if you can discuss this as representative of %26quot;all of my co-workers...in the same boat%26quot; who may want to join you at the new preferred airline, you may have some real leverage.
    How to change airline loyalty?
You can't really do this unless your very pally pally with some sort of manager with the airline. The airlines probley have the business you work for on a %26quot;priority list%26quot; or it's registered in there system.

To get better answers, for those out there that arn't to familiar with all this you may want to re word this question so people un-familiar with airline loyalty will understand properly what your talking about. :-)

    UPDATE:

I appreciate your cold response in the additional details. I was only trying to help you out so you can get more answers. I am very familiar with the loyalty programs myself, as I work in the airline industry with a major airline, but you see many people are not, and im sure people who are not familiar with the program(s) could help out to the best of there ability.

But to add on to what I previously said, airlines are very strict regarding the loyalty programs. The best bet, is that the previous airline you flew with is related to the current airlines your company has selected through an alliance program, such as Star Alliance or One World.

For example, American Airlines has the AAdvantage program and American Airlines is part of the One World Alliance. AAdvantage can be used with any of the other One World partners:

    Air Lingus

    British Airways

    Cathay Pacific

    Finnair

    Iberia

    LAN

    Qantas

If your current airline is in the same alliance as your previous airline, you may want to look into that factor.

    Hope this helps

"Fundamentally strong economy" "Washington experience? Obama is to blame?

Does McCain have any clue about our government or the economy to say the he is the inside Washington experience for 27yrs, he understands Washington and the economy is fundamentally sound, then says American workers are the best in the world, we just have to get government out of business and people s lives are his famous words. Now he is saying Obama is at fault, putting himself first not h is country. Has McCain forgotten that the deregulation and his buddies that were in control 16yrs before the Dem's he blames? Has he forgotten the Republicans and Bush changing the way world does business? Is he claiming the 1and half years, Dem's are to blame with all the cronyism that the Bush administration has been responsible for? Is he desperate or senile?
%26quot;Fundamentally strong economy%26quot; %26quot;Washington experience? Obama is to blame?
McCain's hypocrisy and sleaze knows no bounds. If anything, it's his policy of deregulation that he voted for in 2005 and his 83 pick pocketing lobbyists from the biggest wall street companies that has led to the problem.

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4034154

It is absolutely unbelievable that McCain blamed Obama. This man has no morals, honor, or integrity. He's flipped flopped more in the last week about economic viewpoints than he has during his entire campaign. Keep in mind his hypocrisy is going on at the same time his GOP machine shut down Palin's investigation in Alaska. Already this %26quot;team of mavericks%26quot; are beginning to shed their skin to reveal they are actually a %26quot;team of snakes%26quot; who'll strike at anything in biting distance to get attention off their failures as a campaign and party.
%26quot;Fundamentally strong economy%26quot; %26quot;Washington experience? Obama is to blame?
McCain's got nothing. Yesterday he said we needed a %26quot;commission%26quot; and was basically laughed at. Today he says we need a %26quot;trust%26quot;...

    Whatever.
He's out of touch. Simple as that
Neither, hes a Republican and they have all shed responsibility like an old snakeskin.

They make themselves sound like foolish drones repeating its all Clinton's doing, as if they couldn't have changed it if they wanted to, as if they couldn't have initiated drilling if they had wanted to, in fact they pretty much did everything they wanted to, and that's we got here.

It seems the only thing Republicans have for sure...is amnesia.
Honey, McCain is a very old man who has been through a lot... it's just as simple as that, he's tired.
Perhaps , it's because McCain has no higher educational background and isn't sharp enough to %26quot;understand%26quot; the way past administration deregulation effects the current economy.

or perhaps he just reads what is written on the %26quot;cue cards%26quot; either way.

I truly think that the best Candidate to listen about the current economic crisis and a way out is Obama.

    Here's why IMHO

Let's start by looking at the educational background of each Candidate.

    %26gt;McCAIN:

United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 of 899 (bottom 1% of his class)

    %26gt; PALIN:

Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester

North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study

University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism

    Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester

University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism

    %26gt; OBAMA:

    Occidental College - Two years.

Columbia University - B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations.

Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) MagnaCumLaude (top 5% of his class)

    %26gt; BIDEN:

University of Delaware - B.A. in history and B.A. in political science.

Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

Come on people cut McCain some slack , he's doing the best he can with the tools he brought :)lol

    PEACE

    OBAMA /BIDEN 08

Minor in Economics or Management Information Systems? My major might be Government and World Affairs?

I believe my major is going to be government and world affairs, I've kept changing it like everyday. But this has stuck for like a week, and I already registered a class for it.

This major is very non-stressful, I get to pick my classes within the major cause I'm doing a general and not a concentration on like (law or american gov't)

However, some say this degree may be useless. but right now I'm not caring because I want to learn about it.

on the safe side, a minor in business might not hurt. and economics and MIS only require 6 courses for a minor.

Which would be more useful? I've tried C++ in high school, and it was eh. It might have been my teacher. But i really like working with computers.

should I minor in one of them? which one is better/easier/goes well with my major.

or not minor in them and go through the rest of college stress-free.

I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of writing in my gov't classes. they're labeled as %26quot;Writing Intensive%26quot; courses...
Minor in Economics or Management Information Systems? My major might be Government and World Affairs?
    OK, let's step back.

You should not pick a major. You should pick a career. Then you should complete the major that leads to that career.

To get help picking a career, go to your college's career counseling office, they have the tools to assess your skills and attitudes in order to offer you a list of potential careers you should enjoy--along with projected salary and demand for each. Then you can make an informed decision.

Once you have a career, the counseling office can advise you as to what major to pursue (and where it's offered, if not on your current campus). And what minor, if one is useful.

And once you have chosen a career, try to make everything you do in college relevant to that career in some way.

Trust me, when you have a goal, it all makes more sense.

And sometimes students ask me what will happen if they change their minds. Truthfully, that's always an option--and if you do you lose some of the progress you made toward that original goal--but some of the progress will remain relevant. Whereas, if you don't have a goal, you aren't progressing toward anything in particular, and you drift.

    OK? OK!

Is Global Warming the grand challenge of our century?

Stanford University鈥檚 Global Climate and Energy Project seeks new solutions to what they describe as one of the grand challenges of this century: supplying energy to meet the changing needs of a growing world population in a way that protects the environment.

    Among GCEP's specific goals:

    1. Identify promising research opportunities for low-emissions, high-efficiency energy technologies.

    2. Identify barriers to the large-scale application of these new technologies.

    3. Conduct fundamental research into technologies that will help to overcome these barriers and provide the basis for large-scale applications.

    4. Share research results with a wide audience, including the science and engineering community, media, business, governments, and potential end-users.

The first link is a statement by Project Director Franklin Orr Jr. that is worthy of your time, I believe.

Is Global Warming the grand challenge of our century?
Climate change is one big challange

but it is really only a symptom of the overconsumption of finite natural resources beyond the limits that can be mitigated by the natural control systems.

We cannot aspire to infinite industrial growth on a finite planet.

We need to develop and adopt a life sustaining society instead if there is to be any sort of decent future.

The grand challange has to be peoples attitude, culture and relationship with others and the planet - without that no technical fix will make a difference in the long run

Is Global Warming the grand challenge of our century?
We've had energy crisises before we'll have them again. Protecting the environment and conserving our resources is something we should be doing regardless of whether AGW is real or not.
i would have to agree with Ben and also add it does not matter if CO 2 is the primary cause of GW or not all countries should be researching clean air Technology and you Americans would want to be the leaders in this growing new world market.Nobody wants to breathe that pollution in anyway.
Relax. The climate will cool down on its own. These are all parts of a natural cycle.
    YES !!!!!
I think it should be AIDS, b/c if it is classified as a 'grand challenge' something is more likely going to be done about it. That's just what I think.
I am all for finding new sources of clean energy and ending our dependence on foreign oil that funds terrorism, but CO2 is not a pollutant. It is not toxic to humans or plants and there is no proof it will cause catastrophic warming.

Linking their research to CO2 is probably a good way to increase their funding though. I have to admit that. They might as well ride the gravy train the global warming hysteria has created.
Global Warming is the grand %26quot;Marketing Opportunity%26quot; of our time! Look, people can now go out and re-create EVERY bit of everything that was ever produced (We even have Organic Cotton now), and call it %26quot;Green%26quot;, and charge more for it. Its an incredible sham, generated by arrogant people, for the purpose of generating money, money and more money.

Don't believe the hype. Think critically, think for yourself. the debate isn't over, it's barely begun. It can be called many things- %26quot;The great sham%26quot;, %26quot;the great hype%26quot;, %26quot;The great marketing opportunity%26quot;, all of our time...but the great challenge? hardly.
    yes

global warming is a challenge before the mankind at present but, i fail to understand how supply of more energy can solve it?

    thnks
through natural cycle it will comes normal cycle.
No. Global Warming is the grand lie of the century.

  • Do you think the president's close ties to the family oil business is related to the Global Warming cover up?

    1. U.S. climate scientists have accused the White House of deliberately censoring their research to fit the Bush administration's skepticism on Global Warming

    2. These accusations come as two thousand of world's climate scientists prepare to release the final report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in Paris

    3. The U.S. Administration is viewed as a long-standing global warming sceptic. U.S. President Bush, an heir to family's oil business, refused during his first term to sign the Kyoto Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Would you honestly do everything in your power to defend and protect a major source of your wealth even if it means having to lie or twist the truth to the american people assuming no one would have any suspicion?
Do you think the president's close ties to the family oil business is related to the Global Warming cover up?
It could be because more %26amp; more scientists are coming to the conclusion that GLOBAL WARMING, BECAUSE OF HUMANS, IS A HOAX.

Millions of dollars have been made by the Global Warming Hucksters.

It's all about Money %26amp; Power.
Do you think the president's close ties to the family oil business is related to the Global Warming cover up?
    YES.

    %26quot;would bush do everything in his power to protect .....%26quot;

    obviously.

and his push to eliminate inheritance tax? DUH.

and NO scientists who previously thought that global warming was real have changed their minds, and now think it is not.
    %26quot;Do you think the president's close ties to the family oil business is related to the Global Warming cover up?%26quot;

    Duhh, yup.

I'd rather believe it was raw self-interest than incredible stupidity, but I guess it could be both.
Of course! and case in point former President Jimmy Carter knows this implicitly and has not yet admitted the conflicts?

Why? Because they all are doing it not just Bush even though he is in the Captain's seat, that does not make him the right stuff?

Duh? And there are oh so many others involved. Carter is an agricultural engineer %26quot;Mr. Peanut Farmer%26quot; he announce in 1979 about the global warming problem with the team of scientists he works with, at that time it was called the Great Draught? That is why he and his team cut down the Brazilian Rain Forests?

Because North America was going to lose the power of growth and the world could not feed itself without our free government of food and farms, including Mexico and Canada. The population in America is heavy and the birth rate has not gone down it is growing strong, so there you have it in a nut shell. They were telling the truth and now they all have adjoined at the hip to cover their misdealings and errors. Fear of blame the biggest disease these politicians suffer from besides greed, and ego deflation. ha ha I forgot, this is one of the reasons the Chavez and Caestro thing is escalating? And that is the whole reason that when Caestro found out that he was in harms way would not negotiate with anyone but Jimmy Carter? Caestro has played us like a tune with Carter. Food and Water the two most important things for man's survival?
1.no The polar ice caps have been shrinking for 6000 years, what if anything, is anybody going to do about ? Are you going to quit driving cars, flying airplanes, producing electrical power? Shall we all start riding horses and bicycles? Thirty years ago the fear was we were going to freeze to death. There are studys out there that say the Antartic ice shelves are actually getting thicker. As far as Kyoto Agreement , Australia has not it signed either. Are they in the oil business? I think its all a bunch of bs, most of the scientist perfoming these studies are funded by the worlds governments, of course their going to fan the flames of fear just to get more funding. What Bush is doing is protecting our economy and our way of life.
    John D...

This is obviously a pet peeve of yours. I won't rewrite my earlier answer to CHI GUY. But for the benefit of anyone else reading this who wants some unbiased information about the vagaries of %26quot;global warming%26quot; AND %26quot;global cooling%26quot;, I've included a link to that Q and A.

(Sorry, but your childish answer to that Q. had to be included as well)

P.S. You forgot to use the word %26quot;NEO%26quot; in your Q / accusation. Naughty liberal! (follow the script, dammit!)
Either that or they are dawn stupid. Or both.

What's the difference between an accountant and a chartered accountant?

I have an accountant at the moment, he's a chartered accountant. I'm thinking of changing. My accountant is lovely but I just cant take much in that he tells me, it goes in one ear and out the other, nothings simple and straight talking. I have been talking with another guy that really knows his stuff, and talks in my language, I've learnt so much and had some brilliant advice from him, even found out that our business will need to be audited (if thats the right term) and our company will have to pay for it, Ive never heard of an audit before now. Only he's not a chartered accountant, does that make any difference in the world of the tax man?
What's the difference between an accountant and a chartered accountant?
I think that you need to be careful, you seem to be very inexperienced. If you are a sole trader, ie, not a Limited Company, then you do not need an annual statutory audit carrying out on your business. Public Limited Companies, do require an Annual Statutory Audit and the majority of non-PLC Limited Companies will require an Annual Audit, but there are exceptions.

Lets be clear though, an Audit is not technically the same thing as a firm of Accountants keeping your financial books for you, including perhaps, preparation of annual accounts, 'Tax Return', and 'VAT' returns'. It is not brilliant advice to be told that a business needs an Audit, if that is true in your case. That is very basic. I suspect that the term Audit has been used very loosely, and what is really meant is, assistance with accounting records.

Again, any properly qualified accountant, would have known about the Audit requirement without having to find out, as you put it. Remember, Accountants will only do what you engage them to do.

Your headline question is an oxymoron and betrays a lack of knowledge on your part. This lack of knowledge could be exploited.

A Chartered Accountant, IS an Accountant. Those who are in 'Public Practice' will have been approved by their Professional Body, in this case, the ICAEW to carry out Statutory Audits and other Accounting Services. Moreover, members of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, whose professional body is the ACCA, may also, if aproved by their professional body, act in the same way as the ICAEW.

There are two other approved accountancy bodies, but you don't need to concern yourself with them.

As far as the Customs %26amp; Revenue (tax man) are concerned, they don't particularly care who actualy completes your tax return, because you remain responsible for the accuracy of the figures. It is possible, however, that if a firm of Accountants with a recognised qualification carries out the work, you may be subject to less hassle and enquiry. Because they may feel more confident with their work.

As I said before, you sound very inexperienced and easily impressed. How do you know, therefore, that your (other man) knows what he is talking about? You tell us very little about your business, what its legal status is, or what accounting work you want carrying out. Nor do you say what, if any, are the qualifications of your 'other man'. We know he isn't a Chartered Accountant, but we don't know if he is a member of any recognised Accountancy body, and if he is, whether he has been authorised to carry out the work you require.

Again, with your current accountant, who is properly qualified, you don't say what it is that you don't understand, do YOU need to understand it, what work is he doing for you? I have just noted that you have used the word -WE- when referring to your business, that means it could be a partnership. The partnership agreement might call for an annual audit. One thing is for sure, your Chartered Accountant will know what he is doing, and you would have recourse to his professional body if he doesn't. Your other man is an unknown, who may simply be exploiting your ignorence.
What's the difference between an accountant and a chartered accountant?
    Accountant = Dumb

    Chartered Accountant = Dumber
    about thirty quid an hour
if he's not a chartered accountant, for a start, he can't do the audit. Only a CA can sign up for the (additional) ticket needed to do audits.

%26quot;Chartered%26quot; means he met the standards to join his Instution, which means he's a trained professional. Not chartered means you can't rely on him alone, though if you can afford both that might be the best mix. On the other hand your non chartered friend might be a smooth-talking busker, and you might be best getting rid of him. Beware and move SLOWLY in this matter. Charlatans usually reveal themselves over time.

All accountants have a problem communicating what they mean to humans. This can be remedied partly by a trip to your local bookshop (%26quot;Accounts Demystified%26quot; is the one that worked for me) and partly by placing your hand on his forearm while he's holding a pencil, and starting a sentence with the word %26quot;Look...%26quot;.

So I vote for keeping your CA but beating him into shape. A non-C A is too big a risk.

The tax man (and worse: the VAT man) doesn't care who advises you, but he does care if you break the law. Unfortunately the law is fiendishly complicated. You need a serious professional with you.
none, both will rip you off
a chartered accountant has taken additional qualifications, which places them at the top of their profession...

which is why you pay more for them...
use both of them- use the non chartered for you normal business needs since he knows what he is doing then you take the books that are filled in properly by your accountant to the chartered one for it's final audit since there is less for him to do it will be cheaper for you than using the chartered for everything - in most chartered accountants offices they will charge you the full chartered rate but get an accountant to do tidy up the books before the chartered accountant looks it over but they charge you as if the chartered accountant did all the work
one will sort money and the other departs it

How can I get better with financial banking business in this climate change?

How can I get better with financial banking business in this sudden climate change? I recently opened

Up a Checking and Savings Account at T.C.F. Bank (At 1655 E. 95th st), back on November 20, 2009

And while I was there in the Office opening up the account with the bank teller it seems like I was on

Top of the world. A $200 account was what I went for, but after constantly taking out $50 here, $60

There to help pay for Gas when my mom was taking me to school, $50 to get a new cellphone and

$60 for New York Film Academy deposit and treating my family to something to eat. I'm only down

To $10 now and I'm disgusted. With all the money I spent on me and my family which ate it up in

The first place I was wondering how would any of you handle it? I have a dilemma I want to attend

New York Film Academy and I need to pay them $16,000.00, so Should I bounce a check of that

Amount to them? my real question is, How can I better with financial banking business in this

    Sudden climate change?!, How?!

How can I get better with financial banking business in this climate change?
Climate change has nothing to do with you spending more than you are making. You wasted your money its that simple. YOur math doesnt even add up .You say you had 200.00 in your account and you have 10.00 left but you just said you spent 220.00

. If you try to bounce a check the school will not let you in at all .Maybe you should try public school first Math and Science are both very good classes I recommend for you.

Do any of you want to change the world?

Im going to be starting college really soon and would like to ask you all what you think about my idea. Since it seems that the only way you can make it into politics is with heaps of money, so I think that since im going to school for business I learn about how to make a ton of money and then try and make my way into politics myself and without the help of corporations, endorsements, yada yada, and really try to just sway the public myself. If this happens any clues on what you guys want? ha
Do any of you want to change the world?
You do need some money but not heaps. The most important resource available is an education. Just start at the local level and move on up to the state. If you have the integrity and a track record, you should have no problem getting the support you need as you move up. With a dedicated support base, you can hold fund raisers.
Do any of you want to change the world?
Everybody wants to change the world, but nobody wants to change themselves.

    - A Wise Man Once Said

Do you think today's young people will change the world and government?

For some reason I have a lot of faith in today's kids ages like 15-29. They come up with all kinds of new ideas. Come on, look at Google, Youtube, Uno bike was invented by a 19 year old. Youtube symphony is a global enterprise. I'm in Toronto everyone who I know votes for the Green party, supports weed legalization and so on. And it's not like I'm a hippy stoner, I have a business degree and an office job.

Somehow I feel when Generation X and Baby Boomers retire from government, in like 40 years, we'll change so much. Like taxing polluting meat industry, making internal combustion engines illegal, legalizing weed. I'm not blind, most inventions are done by 20-30 year olds with flexible brains. Somehow Gen X keeps getting in the way of progress. I think public transportation should be free, unless you want to demolish half the city and cover it with concrete just to find more space to drive. There's like a million cars in Toronto. How come everyone has to pay for someone else's ride? I mean cost of pollution, it affects health, Canada has free health care, cost of maintaining nice smooth roads. Pedestrians can walk on any crap road so all repairs and construction are obviously for cars.

I bet there will be a bunch of people over 40 here, crapping on my parade :) Well, screw you, you'll die first and today's kids will just step over your body :) I guess, just like it happened many times before me.

Though I do think something with Gen X folks not being able to send an email has to do with it. Come on, today's kids are way more educated just thanks to technology and even with the most basic and accessible stuff like Wikipedia. I mean look at the stats, most users and contributors were born in 80s and 90s.

I played video games since I was like 11, around the same age I saw a prno. I turned out fine, get off our backs already. Gen X, are some of the worst parents I could think of. Those helicopter parents, with soccer moms, and karate lessons. Leave the kid alone, give him a stick he'll dig a hole and amuse himself for hours :) Chances are he'll grow up a smart kid, instead of whoever you're trying to make him into. Because if kids listen to their parents we'd all be living our mom's basement.

Anyway, I have a flu, so I'm hoped up on pills :) Getting some creative juice flowing here :)
Do you think today's young people will change the world and government?
Not in any huge way like they and all the other generations believed they would.
Do you think today's young people will change the world and government?
Well, of course they will. Can you name any period of 15 years in the past century when the world _hasn't_ changed dramatically?
Kids come in many types, and that includes differences in how they will live their lives. There are a lot of kids right now that are really down-to-earth, recognize that their world in jeopardy due to their parent's behaviour, and want to see something better. I see kids who started volunteer work because the %26quot;had to%26quot; for school graduation requirements, but who loved the work so much that they keep going beyond what is required. I see kids who have developed a passion for doing something about world hunger and organize fund raisers for World Vision or other causes. I see kids getting mad at parents who put the wrong thing in their recycling box.

However, there is a huge disconnect in our society that confuses the heck out of these kids. They are generally treated by our society as little more than annoying nuisances not good for much other than marketing targets. TV shows tell them that it is normal to hate school, that teachers are stupid, and they need to have all the latest stuff to be someone. You hear something enough times and you start to believe it. Until us adults start treating kids like they really are worth it, and stop trying to make them be junk consumers, we are going to have a youth somewhat paralyzed by internal confusion.

Many youth ARE starting to see the disconnect, but find it hard to deal with within the expectations of our culture. For example, drinking a Tim Hortons coffee is culturally the thing that everyone does, but now they are learning that the coffee is often grown by people working in slave-like conditions. The kids hate the fact that people are being abused, and want to do something about it, but they keep drinking their Timmies anyway, because everyone else does it, and hey they can roll up the rim to win! Scenarios like this create conflict, and unless society and governments are willing to address the inconsistancies in our lifestyle vs. our ideals, then we will continue to have confused kids.

I work hard to point out these inconsistancies, and I see kids rising to the challenge to change their lives. It takes people who are willing to point these things and help these kids build the confidence they need to change the world!
I think the kids of today are much smarter then most adults and I would like to see a real down to earth and smart one running this country, but it won't happen, also I believe the world will end before it gets to bad, we will never be able to see someone with half a brain run this country
