Anyone out there looking for this? "Desiderata" something to carry in your pocket!?

%26quot;Desiderata%26quot; Go placidly amid the noise and the haste and remember what peace there my be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terma with all persons. Speak your truth clearly, and listen to others, Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself to others you may become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your career however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself, especially do not feign affection. Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perenial as the grass. Continued!

Amazing how such a stunning and simple piece of work that sets out a way of life has its origins in controversy and myth.

Max Ehrmann, the author, wrote the piece in the 1920,s and included it on a private Christmas card to friends, it was reproduced in 1959 on church note paper claiming the origin as The Old St Pauls Church AD 1692. bringing on legal suits and plagiarism claims.

Some one obviously missed the spirit of the piece entirely!

  • American looking for business grad school in Europe?

Ok, I will be the first to admit that undergraduate studies were such a distraction for me. However, the fact that I was able to graduate with a B-, is truly a miracle. I majored in history, and wouldnt have changed it for the world. It really enabled me to think outside of the box, and put life into perspective. I had the chance to study in Spain a few years back, and ever since my return, I have really missed the European way of life. Someday, I really would like to get into business for myself. Where would be a great place in Europe to study? I only speak English well. I really feel that I can buckle down with graduate school. Education is really important to me, and I feel that I am ready for this. Thanks

If you are thinking about going into business for yourself, I recommend to skip business school. Business school is not like medical or law school. It does not give you a license to practice a trade. You can do business without going to business school. Experience will be much more of a factor of success than business school. Frankly, it is highly debated whether business school teaches students to run a business. It is MUCH less likely that business school will help you to be an entrepreneur. Read here about what a business degree will give to you:

This study article will give you a thorough overview of what to expect from business school:

    http://www.aomonline.org/Publications/Ar鈥?/a>

    In short the authors, both Stanford Business School Professors write of business school: %26quot;Students learn to talk about business, but it is not clear they learn business,%26quot;

If you want to move to Europe, I recommend to start a business and use that as a reason to apply for a residency permit. If you are a US citizen and you set up a BV (limited liability company) in Holland you will very likely be given a residency permit. Holland has a special law that allows US citizens to start businesses and get residency permits. It is a bit on the expensive side to do it, but ALOT less expensive than going to business school.

There are other countries where you can do something similar and it depends on what type of business you want to do. Many European governments are interested in attracting entrepreneurs. Some have high criteria (eg Germany requires you to invest $10 million and hire 10 employees) others do not. You need to investigate further if this is of interest to you.

If you decide anyway to go to business school, check out the website below:

Try asking each question separately, you may get more answers.

How long can our society/culture go like this, before the crud hits the fan?

How much longer can we have all this craziness on around us, and money hungry corporate interests, sucking all the soul and resources and what not from the earth, until it becomes a rotating ball of goblins? It's already on its way, and even if religion is BS and there is no end days or the end of the world, even if you are an atheist, you really can't sit there and deny how screwed up things are getting, and have been throughout history.

We should be concerned. Why? Because our people today have more resources to information and have more ways of getting to places, and learning new things. People today could simply realize that life is short and not fair, so they can turn nihilist or all sorts of other ills, and go crazy on society.

WIthout naming the problems as there are many, it's obvious that things are not changing, and how much longer can we keep doing the same ol'routine, 9 to 5 for the mid class, welfare for the lower, global business for the upper, yadda yadda,
How long can our society/culture go like this, before the crud hits the fan?
yes most people are getting crazier and become slave of their wrong needs and wants in life.by informing the people about the negative effects of most activities, the tendency to havenegative effects might be possible.
How long can our society/culture go like this, before the crud hits the fan?
COR ON MY LEVEL OR WHAT THINK IT HITS THE FAN EVERYDAY SMELL GETS WORSE WHATBIS IT ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL CARS SMELL OF BADEGGS HOW IS THAT GOOD FOR ENVIRONMENT?ONE DAY THE WORLD WILL TRANSFORM TO GIANT FAN THEN DOUBLE WHAMMY LOCK YA SELF INDOORS

At 28, how do I get into the world of investment banking, i.e. like a trainee analyst at Goldman Sachs?

I attended film school, and after about 5 years in the business I am looking for a change of career. I was told that large investment companies look not only for people with business degrees or MBA's but also people from different backgrounds such as liberal arts. Is 28 too late?
At 28, how do I get into the world of investment banking, i.e. like a trainee analyst at Goldman Sachs?
I work for an investment bank and we would hire you if you're any good. new age discrimination legislation means It's illegal now for banks to hire only recent grads

All the big investment banks have annual graduate recruitment programmes. they start interviewing for the 2007 intake very soon indeed, so start applying now. you can do it on their websites. My the bank I work for (and quite like, having worked for a large American investment bank previously) is called Macquarie:

    http://www.macquarie.com/uk/aboutus/careers/graduate_recruitment.htm

You should think carefully about it, though. it's a very tough career. long hours, and sometimes boring work early on. also, you will be a bit older than most of the guys you start with (although new starters from the continent are often in their mid to late 20's).

however, the work can sometimes be exciting, you learn a lot about finance, and the pay is obviously very good (starting salaries typically around 拢35k, with a discretionary bonus of maybe around 拢20k at the end of the first year). at banks such as Goldman Sachs, though, you can honestly kiss your social life goodbye, at least for the first few years. 80 hour weeks are common.

    Dear Trevor

How are you. Your answers are very impressive and I surely thought I could learn some thing from you.

Could you please be kind enough to give 5 minutes for resume review and informational interview.

sometimes it is even better to work at this age because you are probably more prepared for it then if you got it straight out of uni.

    Good luck .
Check out their website. It has lots of information about working there:

I don't think 28 is too late. I work at a top uni and there are plenty of mature students doing the BSc and MSc in Econ or Finance and many end up in Goldman Sachs. I would have thought you would need a degree, preferably a postgrad degree, but it is never too late for anything - go for it!
I went to their offices in London recently (cos my company works for them in one area) and the offices blew me away! It was nicer than a 5 star hotel, I want to work there too!
